Dr. Hatsis is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in complicated cataracts and laser vision correction. He was one of the expert U.S. surgeons to help gain FDA-approval for laser vision correction and was the first surgeon to perform LASIK on Long Island in 1995. Dr. Hatsis authored 18 research articles and written several textbook chapters on LASIK and Cataract surgery. He also participated in FDA approval of Phakic Implant Lenses beginning in 1996 and was the first on Long Island to treat Keratoconus with Collagen Cross-Linking in 2007. In addition to research, patient care and teaching for the past 20 years, Dr. Hatsis has been traveling abroad twice a year to provide cataract surgery to the medically under-served people in Central and South America. Dr. Hatsis speaks fluent Italian, Spanish and limited Greek. He enjoys surfing, jet skiing, scuba and hanging out with his family.
