Bio

Dr. Alexander J. Hatsis is a comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in cornea and external disease. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of Lublin in August 2019 with honors after receiving his Bachelor of Science from the University of Rhode Island in May 2015.

Dr. Hatsis completed his ophthalmology residency at Nassau University Medical Center, where he served as Co-Chief Resident in 2024. He went on to complete advanced fellowship training in Cornea and External Disease at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC), Department of Ophthalmology, where he gained specialized expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex corneal disorders, anterior segment surgery, and ocular surface disease. At the completion of his fellowship he was awarded the Jason Horowitz Fellow of the Year Award for his dedication to education and training with the residents and faculty. Prior to residency, he completed his internship in internal medicine at Nassau University Medical Center.

Between medical school and residency, Dr. Hatsis expanded his clinical and research experience, volunteering as an Ophthalmic Technician at SightMD and as a Research Volunteer in the Department of Pathology at Wills Eye Hospital.

He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and presented at national conferences, with research interests including ocular pathology, corneal surgery, and systemic disease manifestations in the eye. His work has been published in Orbit and the Romanian Journal of Ophthalmology among others.

Dr. Hatsis is also dedicated to community service, actively volunteering with Live Out Loud, mentoring LGBTQ+ youth and participating in scholarship selection committees. His long standing involvement in global health includes participation in the ILAC Medical Missions, providing vital eye care to underserved communities.

With a commitment to clinical excellence, patient education, and compassionate care, Dr. Hatsis strives to improve both vision outcomes and quality of life for his patients.

His personal interests include biking, sailing, physical fitness and the creative arts.
