Bio

Dr. Shawn J. Khan is a highly-regarded board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist. Dr. Khan earned his medical degree from McGill University and completed his ophthalmology residency at both McGill University and Albany Medical College where he served as Chief Resident. He subsequently completed a medical and surgical glaucoma fellowship at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital.
As a former full-time faculty member at the University of Michigan’s Kellogg Eye Institute, Dr. Khan trained residents and fellows in glaucoma surgical techniques, performed clinical research, and treated some of the most difficult glaucoma cases from around the state. He also obtained his MBA from the Michigan Ross School of Business.
Dr. Khan has been named to the “America’s Top Ophthalmologists” list numerous times and served in a variety of healthcare roles, including hospital Chief Medical Officer, hospital Chief of Staff, and private practice founder and owner. He has also lectured and given instructional courses on novel glaucoma medications and surgical techniques at many meetings in several countries, including the Pan American Congress of Ophthalmology, the Ophthalmological Society of the West Indies, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
In addition to his excellence in patient care, Dr. Khan has authored several book chapters, been an investigator in various ophthalmic clinical trials, and published numerous articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He has also served as a scientific manuscript reviewer for the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the Journal of Clinical Therapeutics.
Dr. Khan believes that every patient visit should conclude with the patient’s thorough understanding of their ophthalmologic health and options for treatment. Consequently, excellent communication skills are a cornerstone of his approach to medicine. He is also active in his community through volunteer teaching and serving on several community Boards. In his spare time, Dr. Khan enjoys going to the beach with his family and dog.
